Nigeria Vows to Match US Visa Policy with Equivalent Response
Nigeria has announced plans to introduce similar requirements for U.S. citizens applying for Nigerian visas, in response to a new U.S. policy demanding Nigerian applicants submit their social media account details from the past five years.
The U.S. Embassy stated that all Nigerian visa applicants must include a complete list of their social media handles on the DS-160 visa application form, failure to provide accurate information could result in visa denials or future ineligibility, the embassy warned.

Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the government was informed of the U.S. policy in advance and is preparing a reciprocal response.
“Visa policies work both ways,” Ebienfa said. “If the U.S. requires our citizens to provide social media details, we will ask the same of American applicants seeking Nigerian visas.”

Ebienfa added that the government will hold a meeting with key agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, and the National Intelligence Agency, to finalize its approach. “We’ll come together to decide the best way to handle this,” he said, emphasizing a coordinated and balanced response.
