Soludo Criticises One-Term Political Promises

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has criticized political aspirants who pledge to serve only one term in office, describing such promises as misleading to the electorate.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Soludo argued that one-term pledges are often used as a political tactic rather than a genuine commitment.

He noted that such promises are typically packaged with manifestos that lack clear development strategies.

According to him, voters should focus on the capacity of leaders to deliver results rather than on campaign slogans.

He said the practice has appeared in past elections but was consistently rejected by the electorate when tested at the polls.

Soludo’s remarks come amid renewed debate over single-term promises, with some presidential hopefuls adopting the pledge as part of their 2027 campaign strategy.

The governor maintained that such promises are a “sweetener” designed to attract attention but do not address the substantive issues of governance and development.
