China Gang Leader Arrested, Repatriated from Nigeria

The Nigeria Police Force, working with INTERPOL, has successfully arrested and deported notorious Chinese gang leader, Dai Qisheng, ending an international manhunt that lasted over a year.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the operation on Sunday, calling it a major achievement in Nigeria’s fight against transnational organized crime.

Qisheng, wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for allegedly leading a violent criminal gang, fled to Nigeria in 2024 to escape justice.

INTERPOL NCB Abuja closely monitored his movements before apprehending him in Abuja. He was repatriated to Beijing a week later under coordinated police-to-police arrangements.

“This arrest highlights the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring fugitives cannot find refuge in the country and demonstrates the importance of strong international cooperation against global crime,” Adejobi said.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, commended the officers involved and reiterated the Force’s determination to enhance intelligence sharing and international partnerships. “The repatriation of Dai Qisheng sends a clear message to criminals worldwide that Nigeria will not be a safe haven,” he added.
