Soludo Orders Arrest of Security Agents Over Onitsha Shooting

Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has ordered the arrest and prosecution of security operatives linked to the shooting that left a woman dead near Emeka Offor Plaza in Onitsha Main Market.

The tragedy occurred when members of a task force opened fire during an operation at the busy commercial hub, sparking panic among traders and residents.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the state government confirmed that the victim, identified as Miss Chinwe Igwe, was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital. Her remains have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while other injured persons are receiving treatment and are said to be responding well.

Governor Soludo directed that the officers involved be handed over to the police without delay and that the medical bills of the injured be fully covered by the government.

“The government appreciates the quick response of the police in restoring calm. An investigation is underway, and measures will be taken to prevent a repeat of such an unfortunate incident,” the statement read.

The task force involved is believed to be part of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra Brigade, an enforcement unit set up to implement environmental and sanitation laws in the state.

Authorities say police patrols have since been intensified in the area to reassure traders and maintain peace in the market community.
