Police Rescue 18 Stolen Children in Abia, Arrest 10 Suspects

The Abia State Police Command has rescued eight infants and ten stolen children, arresting ten suspects linked to a child trafficking syndicate operating in parts of Aba.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who issued a statement on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, said the arrests followed a complaint by a woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, who reported that her two children were stolen in Aba on September 27.

According to the police, the woman had travelled to Aba with her children after being lured by a man under the pretext of marriage. She was said to have left her children in the man’s care to buy food, only to return and find them missing.

Following credible intelligence, officers raided a residence on October 8 where stolen children were believed to be kept. Five suspects – including Mrs. Best Ndubusi, Charles Enyinnaya, and Eunice Ezekiel were arrested, while one infant and seven children were rescued.

The following day, police stormed another house along Aba/Owerri Road, arresting four more suspects and rescuing seven infants and three children. On Friday, another suspect, Brittney Oyemuwa Zion, was also arrested, and one child was recovered.

The police urged members of the public searching for missing children to visit the Gender Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Umuahia for identification.

Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime and protecting residents, urging parents and guardians to stay alert and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
