Hisbah Cancels Kano TikTokers’ Wedding Plan

The Kano State Hisbah Board has stopped the planned wedding between popular TikTok creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, saying the relationship was only staged to avoid legal punishment.

Deputy Commander of the Board, Dr Mujahedeen Aminuddeen, said the decision followed an investigation which showed that the pair were not genuinely ready for marriage, despite earlier claims in court. He said the matter would be returned to court if they failed to resolve the issue properly.

The couple had previously faced charges of immoral conduct after a controversial video posted on social media.

During their court appearance, they told Magistrate Halima Wali that they were lovers and were preparing for marriage, prompting the judge to suspend ruling and allow Hisbah to begin wedding arrangements in line with Islamic rules.

Dr Aminuddeen explained that although preliminary steps such as medical tests had begun, the process was discontinued to prevent future disputes since their confession was found to lack sincerity.

The court had earlier given Hisbah a 60-day period to complete the marriage process or bring the case back if the wedding failed to hold.

The move had sparked public reactions, as some Nigerians believed the court was forcing the marriage. However, Kano Judiciary’s spokesperson, Baba Jibo, clarified that the court never ordered a forced marriage, but only acted based on the couple’s own declaration.

He urged the public not to rely on misleading reports online, saying records of the proceedings remained open for inspection.
