FCT Police Impound 30 Vehicles Over Tinted Glass Violations
More than 30 vehicles have been impounded by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command as enforcement of the ban on tinted glass vehicles resumed across Abuja.
The operation also targeted vehicles with covered or obscured number plates as well as those without proper registration. Police authorities said the exercise is aimed at addressing security concerns linked to the use of such vehicles by criminal elements.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said intelligence gathered by the command showed that criminals often rely on tinted vehicles and concealed number plates to avoid identification and escape detection during criminal activities.

According to him, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, authorised the enforcement exercise as part of efforts to improve security within the territory.
Sanusi stated that the operation was not designed to inconvenience law-abiding residents but to remove the advantages criminals gain from using vehicles that make identification difficult.
He disclosed that over 30 vehicles had already been seized since the commencement of the exercise and warned that owners and operators found in violation of the regulations would face prosecution.

The police commissioner said offenders would be charged in line with existing laws, including provisions of the FCT Road Transport Regulations Act, 2023.
He also urged residents to support the exercise by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious persons, vehicles and activities to the police.
The enforcement action comes months after the Nigeria Police Force suspended nationwide implementation of its tinted glass permit policy following an interim court order. While the suspension was announced in January 2026, the current status of the court order remains unclear.
