Pep Guardiola: Man City’s Champions League Chances Against Real Madrid Slimmed to 1%
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that his team’s chances of advancing to the next stage of the Champions League are “one per cent” following a 3-2 loss to Real Madrid at home in the first leg of their play-off clash.
Despite leading 2-1 with just four minutes remaining in the match, City suffered a devastating defeat, leaving Guardiola with little hope ahead of the return leg at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
“The margin to win at the Bernabeu from that position, everybody knows, the percentage to go through, we arrive at one per cent. Or I don’t know what, but it will be minimal,” Guardiola admitted.
While acknowledging the slim odds, he stressed that City would give their best effort, saying, “But as much as you have a chance we will try, that’s for sure.”

However, he also recognized the team’s struggles this season, stating, “We have been really, really poor in performances and results this season.”
City will travel to Madrid with a boost from their impressive 4-0 victory over Newcastle in the Premier League, which kept their hopes of returning to the Champions League alive, regardless of the outcome on Wednesday.
“Saturday, we played really good but it’s not going to change the opinion, the reality. But, of course, it’s better to travel to Madrid with this result,” Guardiola added.
