Controversial Singer Portable Surrenders to Police

Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has turned himself in to the police following his recent declaration as a wanted person by the Ogun State Police Command.

The Lagos State Police Command, through its spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the singer voluntarily surrendered at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, on Wednesday morning. He was later transferred to Ogun State for further investigation.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed Portable’s arrival at the SCID in Abeokuta at 1:23 p.m., stating that the singer is being investigated in connection with an ongoing case.

“The command assures the public that due process will be followed, and updates will be provided as necessary. We urge members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information,” the police stated.

Portable had earlier declared in a viral video that he was mentally unstable and undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.

He claimed he was being targeted due to his association with Senator Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi.

The police are investigating Portable’s alleged involvement in a violent attack on three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development in Ota.

Meanwhile, the officials alleged that Portable, armed with a firearm and backed by nine accomplices, assaulted them during an enforcement operation.

While his associates were arrested, the singer reportedly fled and ignored multiple police invitations, leading to a court order declaring him wanted.

Nine of Portable’s alleged accomplices have been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on charges including felony, assault, unlawful restriction, and possession of weapons. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police say the investigation into Portable’s case is ongoing, but no timeline has been given for his arraignment.
