Sigma BF – Launching April 2025 for $1,999
In an era where digital cameras are full of buttons, dials, and huge menus, Sigma has made a statement by doing exactly the opposite. Sigma BF has introduced a full-frame mirrorless camera that cuts the fat without sacrificing high-end features.
The Sigma BF designed for photographers who appreciate simplicity without a compromise in capability, shatters the conventional camera design with its minimalistic appearance just three physical buttons, a shutter release, and one control dial.
Under its minimalist exterior, though, this camera is far from simple, it boasts a 24.6 MP full-frame (35mm) sensor, guaranteeing lovely image quality and versatility. Sigma has equipped the BF with the L-mount lens system, allowing users to mount a wide range of lenses to suit their photography style.
Street photographer, portraitist or landscape shooter, the Sigma BF feels equally at home. Not only does the Sigma BF look new, it changes the way photographers will interact with their camera.
Instead of presenting users with settings, it streamlines the process, prioritizing what’s truly essential which is capturing photographs. With 13 single-colour modes, both normal and monochrome, the camera makes sure that every photo is a reflection of how the photographer perceived it.
For videographers, Sigma has pulled no punches. The BF can record up to 6K resolution, with 120fps at 1080p being supported. It also features L-log support, providing professionals with more flexibility when it comes to colour grading in post. As much as it might seem, even with the minimal design, the BF is aimed at creators that need quality and versatility.

No SD Card? No Problem
Most surprising on the Sigma BF is the lack of an SD card slot rather than relying on external storage as other mirrorless cameras do, the camera features 230GB of internal storage that provides space for over 14,000 JPEGs, 4,300 uncompressed RAW files, or 2.5 hours of video.
File transfer is easy with the USB-C port for quick and simple transfer of files to a PC or Mac. Sigma’s omission of the SD card slot is consistent with its idea of a distraction-free shooting experience. No more fiddling with memory cards, just pick up the camera and shoot.
It’s a feature that might be unfamiliar to some but one that adheres to the BF’s philosophy of simplifying photography. Sigma is advertising the BF as a “camera that is with you all day”, and battery life holds up to the promise. The detachable rechargeable battery offers a maximum of 60 minutes of continuous movie recording or some 260 stills per charge. The Low power USB-C fast charging has you up and running in no time.

To complement its purpose, the camera also has a status display, a small LCD screen that shows key settings like ISO and aperture at a glance. These are readily adjustable, thanks to the rotatable diamond-textured control dial. This helps to keep the camera interface uncluttered while maintaining full function.
Despite the stripped down interface, the Sigma BF still does manage to include modern camera features. It autofocuses, for example, so that it is easy to obtain in-focus images of individuals, animals, and other moving subjects. The ISO range is also impressive, from 100 to 102,400, so that the camera would work under any kind of light condition.
Sigma has publicized the BF as a back-to-basics style of photography where the focus is on the image, not on the distractions of needlessly complicated settings. It’s a camera for people who want simplicity but need quality, with contemporary tech wedded to a refreshing back-to-basics philosophy.
The Sigma BF is less a mirrorless camera than it is a statement. By removing complexity where it wasn’t necessary but retaining high-end functionality, Sigma has made a camera that not only feels revolutionary but also nostalgic.
For photographers who prefer the process of photography to endless menu diving, this may be the perfect partner. In a world where technology seems to lean toward excess, the Sigma BF has the audacity to pose the question: what if less is more?
