Federal High Court Reassigns Nnamdi Kanu’s Case to New Judge
The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will now be handled by a new judge, following the decision of the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, to reassign the case.
Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed the development in a statement on Saturday, confirming that they had received official communication regarding the reassignment.

He stated that Kanu remains ready to face trial as he is confident of his innocence. He also conveyed Kanu’s gratitude to the Chief Justice of Nigeria for acting swiftly in response to their request for a reassignment.
Ejimakor explained that the legal team had written to the Chief Justice seeking intervention after the previous judge handling the case recused himself in September 2024.
He noted that the delay in reassigning the case posed a threat to Kanu’s right to a fair and speedy trial.
