Reps Order NCC to Shut Down Pornographic Websites Nationwide
The House of Representatives has ordered the total shutdown of pornographic websites across Nigeria. Lawmakers directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to enforce the immediate restriction of access to these sites.
During Tuesday’s plenary session, the House emphasized that internet service providers must comply with the directive by blocking access to all pornographic content.
Dalhatu Tafoki, who represents the Faskari/Kankara/Sabuwa Federal Constituency, sponsored the motion, stating that the ban is necessary to “protect societal values.”

He warned that cyber pornography is becoming a global concern, yet no concrete steps have been taken to curb its spread in Nigeria.
Tafoki highlighted that Nigeria, as a highly religious nation, does not condone nudity and obscenity. He cited examples of countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East that have already passed laws banning pornography.
Psychologists and sociologists, he added, have warned about the negative psychological and social effects of pornography, including addiction, desensitization, and the promotion of promiscuity, adultery, and prostitution.

The House adopted the motion and assigned its Committees on Communications and Legislative Compliance to oversee its implementation, with a report expected in four weeks.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas also issued a warning that internet service providers who fail to comply will face sanctions.
