FRSC Urges Prospective Drivers to Attend Accredited Driving Schools

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised aspiring drivers to enroll in accredited driving schools to properly understand road signs and the Nigeria Highway Code.

The Sector Commander of FRSC in Oyo State gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan on Saturday.

She noted that many drivers who have not attended formal driving schools struggle to recognize road signs and follow their instructions.

“It’s one thing for the road signs to be there; it’s another thing for people to take note of them and drive in line with the instructions,” she said.

She explained that public enlightenment campaigns are ongoing across motor parks in the state to educate drivers on the importance of road signs and safe driving practices.

The FRSC, through its Transport Safety Office, has also been conducting special training for fleet company drivers, particularly those operating five or more vehicles.

The training focuses on highway driving regulations and the proper use of road signs to enhance road safety.

The sector commander further emphasized the importance of the Nigeria Highway Code, describing it as a crucial guide for all road users, including drivers, pedestrians, and motorcyclists.

“Nigerians often think the Highway Code is expensive, but every motorist needs to have a copy,” she said. “We always stress this in driving schools because the Highway Code should be seen as a fundamental guide, just like the holy books in our various religions.”
