Breaking: Former President Buhari Passes Away in UK Hospital
Nigeria has been plunged into mourning following the death of its former leader, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), who died on Sunday in a United Kingdom hospital.
The news of his passing was confirmed by his longtime spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, in a statement issued Sunday afternoon. Shehu disclosed that the former president died earlier in the day, though the circumstances surrounding his death remain undisclosed at the time of this report.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, had been receiving medical care in the UK for an undisclosed illness.
Details about funeral arrangements and official government statements are expected in the coming hours as tributes begin pouring in from across the nation and beyond.
