BREAKING: Buhari Laid to Rest in Daura

The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari were laid to rest on Tuesday evening at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, following a solemn military ceremony and Islamic burial rites.

Buhari was buried at exactly 5:50 p.m. after prayers led by the Chief Imam of Daura at a makeshift prayer ground. The interment took place within the courtyard of his home, in line with Islamic tradition, with only a limited number of dignitaries granted access.

A 21-gun salute was fired in his honour, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, delivered an emotional citation at the graveside, recognising Buhari’s decades of service to the nation.

President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima were among those who attended the burial and paid their final respects. The President’s son, Yusuf Buhari, wept openly as he stood by his father’s grave. He was seen greeting both Tinubu and Shettima.

Locals, unable to enter the residence due to security restrictions, climbed trees and nearby structures in an attempt to witness the historic moment.

In a final symbolic gesture, the national flag draped over the late president’s body was folded and handed over to the family in appreciation of his service to Nigeria.
