PDP Founders Push for Southern Presidential Candidate in 2027
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) founding members have urged the party to select its 2027 presidential candidate from Nigeria’s southern region to ensure electoral success and promote fairness.
Speaking at a consultative conference in Abuja, with the theme “Reclaiming our Legacy, Renewing our Collective Vision,” the former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, emphasized that zoning the ticket southward is a strategic move to secure victory while upholding justice and equity.
Gana, representing the founding fathers, called for the National Executive Committee (NEC) to schedule a transparent national convention to elect new party leaders for the next four years.

He stressed the need for a credible process to choose a visionary presidential candidate capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges. “We need a leader with proven integrity and the ability to deliver solutions,” he said, advocating for an open and democratic convention free from manipulation.
The group also highlighted the importance of empowering younger Nigerians and women, urging the party to integrate them into leadership role, while noting that the energy, innovation, and digital skills of the youth are vital for shaping the country’s future. “Our strategy for 2027 must prioritize young leaders and women, ensuring their voices shape our party and nation,” he added.
