Why KWAM1 Was Removed from Abuja Flight — FAAN

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has explained why popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM1, was removed from a ValueJet aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

In a statement released by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah, the agency said the decision followed the singer’s refusal to comply with basic safety regulations concerning the carriage of liquids.

According to FAAN, the incident occurred during boarding when KWAM1 allegedly attempted to board the aircraft with an unidentified liquid substance. International aviation guidelines prohibit passengers from carrying liquids over 100ml unless clearly declared, especially for medical reasons.

The statement noted that airport security officials and the flight captain warned the musician, but he reportedly declined to cooperate.

“As boarding continued, an airline security officer asked the passenger to step aside for further clarification. The passenger allegedly refused and spilled the contents of the flask on the officer, which turned out to be alcohol,” Orah said.

The flight captain, according to the statement, also intervened but was met with further resistance. Once boarding was complete, she ordered the aircraft door closed. The passenger then moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area.

He was later escorted off the aircraft by Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel for further investigation and was eventually released.

FAAN emphasised that the safety and smooth operation of airport procedures remain its top priority and that rules will be enforced, regardless of an individual’s status.
