AHF Nigeria to distribute free condoms in Benue, Kogi, others Thursday
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Nigeria has emphasized the importance of regular condom use among couples as a preventive measure against HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
In a statement released on Wednesday in Makurdi, Benue State capital, AHF Nigeria’s Advocacy and Marketing Manager, Steve Aborisade, highlighted condoms as an effective tool for safer sex.
Aborisade announced that the organisation will mark International Condom Day on Thursday across various states, including Benue, Akwa Ibom, and Kogi, by distributing free AHF-branded condoms.

The events will feature a road walk involving students, civil society groups, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, and officials from state ministries of health and AIDS control agencies.
AHF Nigeria’s Country Programme Director, Dr. Echey Ijezie, noted that despite the daily acquisition of over one million STIs worldwide, the World Health Organisation has observed a decline in condom use globally.
“We’re reminding everyone that using condoms is the best way to prevent HIV, other STIs, and unplanned pregnancies. AHF created this day to promote safer sex and make condoms accessible for all,” Ijezie stated.
