The Supreme Court has overturned the decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had affirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
Delivering a unanimous verdict on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court declared that the appellate court acted beyond its powers by recognizing Abure as chairman, having already concluded that the matter concerned the party’s internal leadership structure.
The court emphasized that leadership matters fall within the internal affairs of a political party and are beyond judicial intervention. It also noted that Abure’s tenure had already lapsed.
