Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has called on fans to keep supporting her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, as it inches closer to a record-breaking ₦2 billion at the box office.

The film has already grossed an impressive ₦1.8 billion, making it one of the highest-earning Nollywood films. However, in a video shared on her X handle on Saturday, Akindele humorously clarified that she doesn’t get to keep the full amount, as cinemas, tax authorities, and distributors all take their share.

Joking about the milestone, she hinted that she might only feel satisfied when the movie crosses the ₦2 billion mark.

“I beg, no be only me get the ₦1.8 billion o!!! Cinema go collect, tax go collect, distributor go collect!!!! Maybe when I get to ₦2 billion, I fit settle. So please go see #ELJTheMovie in cinemas and take us to ₦2 billion naira. Thank you,” she wrote.

Akindele’s dominance at the box office continues as she was recently named the highest-grossing lead actress of 2024 by FilmOne, a top movie distribution company.

Following closely behind her in second place is Wunmi Toriola for Queen Lateefah, while Toyin Abraham secured the third position with Alakada Bad and Boujee.

Other actresses who made the top ten highest-grossing list include Tomike Adeoye (Ajosepo), Eniola Ajao (Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju), Kehinde Bankole (Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti), and Adunni Ade (Lakatabu).

Uche Nwaefuna also made the list for her roles in Thinline, Silent Intruder, and The Betrayed, while Regina Daniels and Gbugbemi Ejeye rounded off the top ten with Farmer’s Bride.

Meanwhile, with Everybody Loves Jenifa still showing in cinemas, Akindele remains hopeful that her fans will push the film past the historic ₦2 billion mark.
