A Shari’a Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, has sentenced a 19-year-old man, Dahiru Usman, to one month in a correctional facility for assaulting a sex worker.
Presiding over the case on Tuesday, Judge Kabir Muhammad gave Usman the option of paying a fine and ordered him to compensate the victim with ₦70,000. Failure to do so would result in a 12-month jail term.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Luka Sadau, the victim, Zainab Idris, reported the incident to the Sabon Gari Police Station on January 15.
Sadau told the court that Usman and Idris had agreed to meet at a hotel on Constitution Road at around 2:30 p.m. for a service priced at ₦10,000. However, an argument broke out in the hotel room, during which Usman physically assaulted Idris, striking her on the head with a hammer, causing injuries.
The prosecutor presented the hammer as evidence and urged the court to impose an appropriate punishment while ensuring the victim received the ₦70,000 compensation. Usman pleaded guilty to charges of assault and causing harm.
