he Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its planned nationwide protest against the recent 50% increase in telecommunications tariffs.

This decision came after a meeting with federal government representatives on Monday, during which both parties agreed to establish a committee to review the tariff hike.

The committee, comprising five representatives from both the NLC and the government, is tasked with examining the entire tariff structure and is expected to present its findings within two weeks.LC President Joe Ajaero emphasized that the union’s future actions, including potential protests or service withdrawals, will depend on the committee’s conclusions.

citetu NLC had previously condemned the tariff increase as insensitive and unjustifiable, arguing that it would impose an additional burden on Nigerian consumers already facing economic hardship.he union had threatened a nationwide protest if its demands for a reduction to a 5% increase were not met.

Telecom operators, on the other hand, have maintained that the tariff adjustment is necessary to sustain operations amid escalating costs.

They have ruled out negotiations with organized labor on the increase, insisting that no reduction would be made despite the labor threat.

The outcome of the committee’s review will determine the NLC’s next steps in addressing the tariff hike and its impact on Nigerian consumers.
