No change in Bayelsa PDP leadership: party insists

“No change in Bayelsa PDP leadership ,party insists “,Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly dismissed reports recently.

Suggesting a change in its leadership structure, following claims that it’s State Working Committee, headed by Solomon Agwana, had been dissolved.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ebiye Ogoli, described the reports as,

“False and misleading,” urging members of the party and the public to disregard the claims.

He emphasized that the leadership of the party in Bayelsa remains intact and focused.

The controversy began after the South-South Zonal Working Committee of the PDP, led by Dan Orbih.

It had dissolved the Bayelsa and Edo State executives during a meeting held at the party’s zonal secretariat in Port Harcourt.

The zonal body cited allegations of gross misconduct, and mishandling of internal crises as reasons for the dissolution.

They announced the appointment of George Turnah, an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike,

As chairman of a newly constituted caretaker committee for Bayelsa, ogoli rejected the announcement.

He stressed that the South-South zonal leadership had no constitutional authority to dissolve a state executive.

He pointed out the tenure of the Dan Orbih-led zonal executive expired on March 13, 2025.

Ogoli explained that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP had already intervened,

By appointing a caretaker committee headed by Chief Emmanuel Ogidi to oversee the South-South zone, pending the conduct of a proper zonal congress.

The Bayelsa PDP spokesman drew attention to ongoing court proceedings involving George Turnah,

Knowing that his suspension was still being deliberated at a Bayelsa State High Court.

He said any move to appoint Turnah as head of a caretaker committee was  inappropriate and also legally questionable

“We place on record that the zonal exco, even if properly constituted, does not have the constitutional powers to dissolve a state working committee,” Ogoli said.

He called on PDP members across the state to remain calm , warning against external forces aiming to destabilize the party.

Ogoli reaffirmed the party’s unwavering support for Governor Douye Diri and encouraged members to stay focused.

“2027 is still a few years away,” Ogoli added. “We must not allow these distractions to derail our collective mission”.

Our duty is to continue standing behind our governor, who has shown true patriotism and a deep commitment to the progress of Bayelsa State.
