Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 44-year-old suspected cult leader and hired assassin said to be behind a wave of violent crimes in Mushin and its environs for over a decade.
The suspect, described as one of the most wanted criminals in recent Lagos history, was apprehended at his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, during a special operation codenamed Silence, Speed and Surprise , according to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
“For years, he coordinated numerous gangs, led armed robberies, murders, kidnappings, and cult related killings across Mushin,” Hundeyin said in a statement released Friday.
The suspect had reportedly evaded capture for years, constantly relocating between states. However, the Tactical Squad trailed him persistently until his eventual arrest.
A raid on his Mushin residence led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, a K2 rifle, three pump action guns, two locally made pistols, and various rounds of ammunition.
Other items recovered include walkie-talkies, a dagger, nine international passports belonging to different individuals, and over 150 rounds of live cartridges and bullets.
Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to expand the investigation and track do Notorious Lagos Cultist Arrestedwn accomplices. Four families have so far identified the suspect as the person responsible for the deaths of their loved ones.
Owohunwa praised the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Lagos.
“The suspect is currently in custody under tight security and will face prosecution. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities,” he stated.
The police have assured Lagosians that the safety of lives and property remains a top priority, promising transparency in the ongoing investigation.
