Panic as Lagos Ferry Catches Fire, 19 Rescued, 4 Severely Injured
In the early hours of Thursday, a LAGFERRY vessel carrying 19 passengers was engulfed in flames, sparking panic at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu, Lagos.
According to the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), the ferry, Igbega Eko, was en route to Victoria Island when the fire broke out at around 6:45 a.m.
Upon receiving a distress call, LASWA’s emergency response team swiftly mobilized to the scene, working alongside LAGFERRY, other boat operators, and first responders to ensure a swift evacuation.

“All passengers and crew were evacuated safely, though four passengers sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention,” LASWA confirmed.
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire while collaborating with LAGFERRY and other stakeholders to strengthen fire safety measures across Lagos waterways.
LASWA reassured the public that all safety protocols remain in place and ferry services are operating as scheduled.
