The bodies of 28 migrants were found dead near a Libyan detention facility in the southern desert city of Kufra.

According to a statement from the Libyan Attorney General’s Office on Sunday, the grave was discovered north of Kufra, where dozens of migrants had been held under inhumane conditions.

Security forces have since rescued 76 migrants from the facility. Investigators believe a criminal gang was responsible for detaining the victims, subjecting them to torture, and treating them with cruelty and degradation.

Kufra, located near Libya’s borders with Egypt and Sudan, is a known hotspot for human trafficking and migrant abuse.

Libya’s ongoing instability, fueled by years of civil war, has allowed armed groups, including some linked to state agencies to run trafficking networks that exploit migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.

Reports of severe human rights violations remain widespread, with migrants often facing forced labor, unlawful killings, and sexual exploitation at the hands of these criminal groups.
