‘The Pitt’ Wins Emmy Amid Calls for Free Palestine
The HBO Max drama The Pitt, which follows the challenges of American healthcare workers in a fictional Pittsburgh emergency room, won the award for Best Drama at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa, who star in the series, also took home awards for Best Leading Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.
Wyle, portraying overworked emergency physician Michael Robinavitch, used his acceptance speech to honor healthcare workers. “To anyone going on shift tonight, or coming off shift tonight, thank you for being in that job. This is for you,” he said.
Other top winners included HBO’s dark comedy Hacks, which earned Jean Smart Best Actress in a Comedy Series and Hannah Einbinder Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Einbinder, who recently pledged not to work with Israeli companies involved in the Gaza conflict, called for a “free Palestine” in her acceptance speech, emphasizing her distinction between her Jewish identity and the state of Israel.

Netflix’s limited series Adolescence won eight awards, while Apple TV+’s Severance took Best Actress in a Drama Series for Britt Lower and Best Supporting Actor for Tramell Tillman. Seth Rogen’s comedy The Studio claimed the night’s most awards, with 13 wins including Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
The ceremony, marked by celebrations of artistic achievement, also featured several stars speaking out on global issues. Spanish actor Javier Bardem said he could not work with studios that “justify or support the genocide” in Gaza, highlighting a growing trend of entertainment figures using their platforms for political advocacy.
The 2025 Emmy Awards not only celebrated television excellence but also underscored how artists are increasingly engaging with pressing global issues through their visibility on the world stage.
