NECO Records 84% Pass Rate in 2025 SSCE

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with over one million candidates securing five credits and above.

NECO Registrar, Professor Danteni Ibrahim Wushishi, said on Wednesday in Minna that 1,144,496 candidates, representing 84.26 percent, achieved the benchmark, while 818,492, or 60.26 percent, obtained five credits including Mathematics and English Language.

Wushishi, however, expressed concern over widespread malpractice, disclosing that 38 schools across 30 states were implicated in mass cheating. He added that nine supervisors from Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano and Osun were recommended for blacklisting over infractions ranging from poor supervision to aiding malpractice and unruly conduct.

The NECO chief further revealed that examinations were disrupted in eight schools in Adamawa State following a communal clash between July 7 and 25. The incident affected 599 candidates and 29 papers. Discussions are ongoing with the Adamawa State Government to reconduct the affected papers before results can be released.

He explained that the 2025 SSCE results were released 54 days after the last paper in August, describing the timeline as a reflection of NECO’s commitment to efficiency, credibility and professionalism.

Wushishi commended staff of the council for their dedication and discipline, which he said ensured that the results remained trusted by students, schools and institutions.
