Wizkid Hits 10bn Spotify Streams, Sets African Record
Nigerian singer Ayodeji Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, has become the first African artist to surpass 10 billion streams on Spotify, marking a major milestone for the continent’s music industry.
Latest figures released in January 2026 show Wizkid leading Africa’s most-streamed artists on the platform, ahead of fellow Nigerian star Burna Boy, who has recorded more than 9.5 billion streams and Davido has recorded more than 6.5 billion streams.
Rema follows with 5.6 billion streams, while Tems has crossed 4.4 billion. South African singer Tyla stands at 3.7 billion, with Ayra Starr close behind on 3.3 billion streams.

The streaming milestone reflects Wizkid’s steady rise over more than a decade, driven by a catalogue of globally successful songs. Drake’s One Dance, on which Wizkid featured, accounts for nearly four billion streams, while Essence, his collaboration with Tems, has recorded over 333 million streams.
His third studio album, Made In Lagos Deluxe, remains his most successful project on Spotify, having crossed one billion streams. As a lead artist, Essence stands as his most-streamed song on the platform.
The achievement places Wizkid at the forefront of African music’s growing global presence, underscoring the expanding reach of Nigerian artistes on international streaming platforms.
