Super Eagles Reach AFCON Semi-Final with Win Over Algeria
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have booked their place in the semi-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a commanding 2-0 victory against Algeria in their quarter-final match in Marrakech on Saturday.
Victor Osimhen broke the deadlock early in the second half, heading home from close range after a precise cross in the 46th minute. Nigeria doubled their lead ten minutes later through Akor Adams, who finished off a well-worked move following a break.
The Super Eagles dominated the clash from the outset, creating several early chances and keeping Algeria largely on the back foot. Despite Algeria’s attempts to regain a foothold in the game with substitutions around the hour mark, Nigeria’s defence remained resolute throughout.

The win ends Nigeria’s recent run without a victory over Algeria in direct matchups and sets up a semi-final tie against hosts Morocco in Rabat.
The victory caps a strong campaign for Nigeria, who had earlier beaten Mozambique 4-0 to reach the last eight. With both Osimhen and Ademola Lookman in fine form, the Super Eagles have shown attacking depth that could prove decisive in their quest for a third Africa Cup of Nations title.
Fans across Nigeria and the continent celebrated the result, with social media and public watch parties erupting after the final whistle. The team now turns its focus to the semi-final showdown on Wednesday in Rabat.
