9ice Criticises Nigerians’ Reliance on Prayer Over Hard Work

Nigerian singer Alexander Adegbola Akande has criticised the country’s strong focus on religion, arguing that prayers alone have not translated into national development.

Speaking at a recent event, the artiste said many Nigerians devote more time to religious activities than to practical efforts that could improve their lives and the nation’s progress.

He compared Nigeria with the United Kingdom, suggesting that lower levels of religious observance there have not hindered development, as citizens prioritise work and productivity.

According to him, Nigerians often rely on prayers for issues they could address through action, noting that regular church attendance and pilgrimages take up significant time that could be used more productively.

The singer, who now identifies as a traditionalist, said his personal experiences influenced his views. He disclosed that he turned to traditional religion after an Ifa priest reportedly healed him from a prolonged illness he described as a spiritual attack.

He also expressed regret for not embracing African Traditional Religion earlier, maintaining that his perspective was shaped by what he went through.
