Veteran actress, singer, and film producer Shan George has urged both men and women to thoroughly investigate their partner’s family background before tying the knot.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, George emphasized the importance of knowing your partner’s family history, noting that it’s essential to consider factors such as their genotype and other personal matters before making a lifelong commitment.

She pointed out that certain issues, often inherited from family lines, can lead to pressures that escalate into domestic abuse or violence.

I will advise that like it used to be done in the past, please do an investigation into a person’s family history, genotype, and other important issues before marriage. Some of the things that cause pressure that aggravates to abuse, most times are in the lineage.”

George also praised the public outcry and actions taken by authorities in response to recent cases of murder and abuse in Nigeria. She acknowledged the trauma experienced by both parents in such situations, whether they are grieving the loss of a child or dealing with the consequences of their child’s actions. She believes the public outrage, though it may sometimes seem insufficient, does help bring attention to these issues, which in turn prompts security agencies to take action.

However, she noted that people tend to back off once the authorities begin handling the case, unless they perceive an injustice in how it’s managed.
