Zamfara Airport Set for Takeoff in Four Months
Governor Dauda Lawal says Zamfara State’s long-awaited airport is almost ready and should begin operations within the next four months.
Speaking during an interview with Arise TV on Monday, the governor said the project is a major step toward opening up the state to investment and development.
Lawal noted that the lack of air access has discouraged investors from visiting Zamfara, with the road trip from Abuja taking as long as seven hours through often unsafe routes.
“With all the challenges of insecurity, do you expect any serious investor to drive from Abuja to Zamfara by road?” the governor asked. “That’s what I’ve been doing, but we can’t expect that from others. This is why the airport is crucial.”

He said once the airport becomes functional, it will significantly improve access to the state and help ease security concerns tied to road travel.
Lawal added that the airport will mark the beginning of a more accessible and investment-friendly Zamfara.
The governor also highlighted ongoing road upgrades within Gusau, the state capital, saying they have not only improved movement but also helped boost local business and create jobs.
The airport, officially flagged off by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo in 2024, is being built to meet smart infrastructure standards, with capacity for both domestic and international flights. The project is part of the administration’s broader push to reposition Zamfara as a key commercial hub in the North.
