Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, stating that the suspect also suffered burns and is currently receiving treatment in a medical facility under police watch.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the quarrel escalated when the issue of the suspect’s pregnancy was raised. Although the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, detectives from the Choba Division responded promptly after the distress call was received around 11:12 a.m.
Iringe-Koko said, “The suspect, Cynthia Chukwundah, is currently hospitalized due to burns sustained in the incident. She is reportedly pregnant with the deceased’s child and is not yet in a condition to provide a full account of what transpired.”
