Akume Says Nigeria’s Challenges Did Not Start With Tinubu
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has said the challenges facing Nigeria did not begin with the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Akume stated this on Sunday during a special service to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja.
He said President Tinubu has embarked on bold reforms to address some of the issues, including the removal of fuel subsidy, and stressed that the President needs the support of all Nigerians.
“What President Bola Tinubu is doing today could have been done 39 years ago. But I believe that at the end of the tunnel, there is light,” Akume said.

He urged citizens to contribute their quota to nation-building, noting that “each Nigerian has a role in building the Nigeria that we deserve.”
The SGF also called for cooperation among the three arms of government, saying the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary must always work together.
Akume added that the Independence Day celebration was not only a commemoration of Nigeria’s freedom from colonial rule but also a time to honour the country’s founding fathers who fought for the nation’s independence.
