Amaechi Says Tinubu Has Failed to Justify His Presidency

Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, declaring that the President is not worthy of leading the country.

In a viral video shared on X, Amaechi questioned Tinubu’s reasons for seeking office and demanded an explanation for the use of public funds amid the country’s economic difficulties.

He also faulted the administration over insecurity, arguing that the Constitution places a responsibility on the President to protect lives and property.

“As we’re talking today, by law, President Tinubu is not worthy to be president, by law,” Amaechi said.

“Let Tinubu tell us why he came to power. What is happening to our money?”

The former Minister of Transportation also criticised the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, arguing that the policies had increased economic hardship without delivering clear benefits to Nigerians, despite higher government revenues.

Amaechi proposed a different approach to fuel pricing, advocating what he described as a production-based subsidy that would lower the cost of crude oil supplied to local refineries.

Under his proposal, the government would set a lower domestic crude oil price for the Dangote Refinery and modular refineries compared with the international market price.

He argued that the difference between the two prices would enable local refiners to reduce the cost of producing fuel, ultimately lowering pump prices and the cost of other goods and services.

Amaechi’s comments come as political parties intensify their activities ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a related development, the ADC has urged Nigerians to learn from the United States midterm elections, which it described as a rejection of the ruling Republican Party and its economic policies.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the outcome demonstrated the power of voters to hold political leaders accountable through elections.

The ADC argued that elections should be determined by citizens’ welfare rather than political loyalty or support for individual personalities.

It also accused the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government of worsening economic hardship, insecurity and unemployment, questioning why Nigerians should give the ruling party another mandate in 2027.

The party urged voters to participate actively in the next general election, describing their voter cards as instruments for bringing about political change.

It said the ADC was offering an alternative focused on making Nigeria affordable and safe while creating more employment opportunities.
