Anambra Govt Decries Ogboji Massacre, Assures Swift Justice
The Anambra State Government has expressed strong outrage over the gruesome killing of 13 individuals in Ogboji, a community located in Orumba South Local Government Area.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday when unidentified armed men reportedly stormed a monthly community gathering in two Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs). Witnesses said the assailants opened fire on attendees, killing several people on the spot and firing shots into the air before fleeing the scene.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, described the killings as a “barbaric act” and extended heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families.

He emphasized that early findings suggest the attack may have been rooted in an internal conflict, rather than being ethnically or regionally motivated.
“There is no indication that the assault was aimed at any specific ethnic group or state. Preliminary reports point to a domestic dispute,” Mefor clarified.
The Commissioner reassured the people of Anambra that the government will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the perpetrators are identified and brought to book.
“We call on residents to remain calm and support security operatives with useful information. The government is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of its citizens, and justice will be pursued vigorously,” he added.
The state also urged cooperation with law enforcement agencies as investigations continue to unravel the full details of the heinous attack.
