Anglican Election in Wales Sparks Nigerian Church Concerns
The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has raised objections to the recent election of Bishop Cherry Vann, as the Archbishop of Wales, citing concerns over her personal lifestyle.
In a statement issued Sunday, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba, criticized Vann’s openly lesbian orientation, stating it conflicts with traditional Anglican teachings rooted in Scripture.
He described the July 3 election as a step away from the church’s foundational beliefs.
Ndukuba called on Anglicans worldwide to reject leadership that strays from biblical principles and to support groups like GAFCON that uphold traditional values, while he stressed the need for the church to focus on evangelism, holy living, and adherence to historic creeds.
The Church of Nigeria stated it does not recognize Vann’s appointment and urged prayers for the Church of Wales to return to what it considers true Christian values.
Furthermore, Ndukuba warned that without this shift, the church risks losing its spiritual significance in Wales.
