Atiku Denies Plan to Quit Presidential Race
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied claims that he is ready to abandon his presidential ambition for another candidate.
Reports had suggested that Atiku, in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, hinted at stepping aside for a younger and more acceptable aspirant under the African Democratic Congress.

But in a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, on Thursday, the former vice president described the report as a misrepresentation.
According to the statement, a careful review of the video and transcript of the interview showed that Atiku never said or implied that he intended to step down for anyone.
“Atiku Abubakar clearly said that young people and other aspirants are free to contest,” the statement noted. “He stressed that if a young candidate wins through a competitive primary, he would willingly support such a person.”
The statement added that the report was misleading and did not reflect what Atiku actually said in the interview.
