Atiku Slams Tinubu’s Security Assurances Due to Fresh Attacks

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has raised concerns over the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity, criticising recent developments as inconsistent with earlier assurances given by President Bola Tinubu.

Atiku’s remarks come in the wake of renewed violence reported in parts of Benue State, Nasarawa State, and Kaduna State. These incidents occurred only days after the President assured victims of the Jos killings that such attacks would not recur.

In a statement shared on X, Atiku referenced the President’s earlier commitment, suggesting that subsequent events have undermined its credibility. He pointed to reports that another deadly attack took place in Benue State within 72 hours of the assurance, resulting in multiple fatalities.

The former vice-president emphasised that leadership requires decisive action, particularly in addressing national security challenges. He urged the administration to respond more effectively to the ongoing threats facing communities.

Atiku also highlighted distressing reports from Nasarawa, where residents were said to have fled their homes amid fears of impending attacks, as well as fresh violence in Kaduna State over the weekend. These developments, he argued, reflect a broader pattern that demands urgent attention.

Reiterating the fundamental role of government, Atiku stressed that safeguarding lives and property must remain a top priority. He called for a shift from statements to concrete action, noting that public confidence depends on visible and sustained efforts to curb insecurity.

He concluded by extending condolences to families affected by the recent attacks, acknowledging the human toll of the continued violence and the need for meaningful intervention.
