Benue Governor Urges Corps Members to Contribute to National Development

The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has urge  National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)  to make a positive impact in their host communities by contributing to national development.

The governor gave the advice during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II orientation course held at the NYSC orientation camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, Governor Alia emphasized the importance of patriotism, integrity, and hard work.

He encouraged the corps members to use the skills they acquired during the orientation program to tackle youth unemployment and contribute to the socio-economic and political development of Benue State.

The governor also advised the corps members to integrate with their host communities, respect local cultures, and refrain from local politics.

“As you go to your various places of primary assignment, I urge you to be good ambassadors of the NYSC and your communities,” he said. “Integrate with the people, appreciate their culture and traditions, and live peacefully with them.”

Governor Alia assured the corps members of their security and welfare, stating that his administration would prioritize their well-being.

He also commended the corps members for their participation in the orientation program, noting that it was designed to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute meaningfully to national development.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, expressed gratitude to the governor for his support, particularly in tackling erosion challenges at the camp.

She encouraged the corps members to apply the skills they acquired during the orientation program to make a positive impact in their host communities.

The governor’s advice to the corps members is in line with the NYSC’s objective of promoting national unity and development. The scheme, established in 1973, aims to provide young Nigerians with opportunities to serve their country and develop their skills and knowledge.

As the corps members disperse to their various places of primary assignment, they are expected to make a positive impact in their host communities.

With the governor’s advice and support, they are well equipped to contribute to national development and promote the values of patriotism, integrity, and hard work.
