Burna Boy Makes History As First African To Hit No.1 On Billboard Global 200

Nigerian music star Burna Boy has just made history.
The Afrobeats singer, Damini Ogulu, has become the first African artiste ever to reach No.1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart.
He got there with his World Cup collaboration with Shakira, ‘Dai Dai’. The song didn’t just top the Global 200 — it also took the No.1 spot on the Billboard Global 200 Excl. U.S. chart this week.
And it’s not stopping there. ‘Dai Dai’ also jumped 12 places on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., climbing to a new peak of No.55.
The Grammy winner continues to put African music on the world map, and this new milestone proves Afrobeats is now a global force.
Burna Boy isn’t the only Nigerian making waves this week. Fellow star Tems is also breaking records with her hit ‘What You Need’. The song climbed 5 spots to reach a new peak of No.39 on the Billboard Hot 100* after spending 15 weeks on the chart.
Beyond that, ‘What You Need’ hit No.1 on both the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban radio chart.
With that, Tems becomes the first solo African artiste to top those two U.S. radio charts. Two Nigerians, two historic moments, one big week for Afrobeats.
It’s safe to say Nigerian music is running the global charts right now.
