David Justice Says Therapy Might Have Saved Marriage to Halle Berry
Former Major League Baseball star David Justice has opened up about his short-lived marriage to Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry, saying the relationship might have survived if they had sought therapy.
Justice, who married Berry in 1993 after a whirlwind romance, revealed during an appearance on the All The Smoke podcast that the actress proposed to him just five months into dating. “I couldn’t say no… I didn’t want to make her feel bad,” he recalled.
He said their marriage began in a “honeymoon state” but quickly ran into trouble. Justice admitted he held traditional expectations of a wife, but Berry “didn’t cook, didn’t clean, didn’t really seem motherly,” which made him question starting a family with her.

The couple’s busy careers also kept them apart, with Berry traveling for movie roles around the world while Justice was tied to his baseball schedule. “We spent a lot of time apart… she was doing movies in this country, that country,” he said.
Looking back, Justice believes professional help could have changed the outcome. “We honestly probably could have made it if I knew about therapy. If we knew about therapy, we probably could have made it,” he said.
The two met in 1992 after Berry spotted Justice during an MTV celebrity baseball game and sent him her number through a friend. Their fast-moving romance ended in divorce in 1997.
