At least one person was killed, and over 10 houses were burned in a violent clash in Ndieguzu Agalegu Omege community, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on Saturday night.

According to sources, the crisis erupted between the people of Omege Agalegu and Ukwuinyima communities. Several people sustained injuries, and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the attack.

The cause of the clash remains unclear, but sources revealed it might be connected to an earlier incident in November 2024, when a woman allegedly raped and murdered was buried.

A resident, speaking anonymously for safety reasons, said, “More than 10 houses have been burnt to ashes. The government needs to intervene quickly to stop further destruction.”

The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident on Sunday. He stated that the clash began when two youths from the communities engaged in a fight, leading to one of them, from Omege, being stabbed.

“The victim died later in the hospital, which triggered an attack on Omege community. Some mud houses with thatched roofs were burned,” Ukandu said.

He added that police operatives were deployed to the scene to stop the violence and prevent further damage.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspect who stabbed the victim to death had been arrested. He also assured the public that security personnel were maintaining peace in the area while investigations into the incident were ongoing.

Ukandu said, “The crisis has been curtailed for now, and the police are monitoring the area to ensure it doesn’t escalate further.”
