Edo NSCDC Urges Residents to Flee Flood-Prone Areas

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State urges residents in low-lying areas to relocate immediately due to the looming threat of severe flooding.

State Commandant Gbenga Agun stressed the urgency of acting now to save lives and property. “Residents in vulnerable areas must move before it’s too late,” he said in a statement released by spokesman Efosa Ogbebor. The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency’s prediction of intense rains, coupled with heavy downpours already recorded in July, prompted the alert.

NSCDC has deployed its Disaster Management Unit and instructed officers in high-risk areas like Agenebode, Udaba, Anegbete, Ukpeko, Illushi, and Oji to educate communities on flood preparedness, safe evacuation, and loss prevention.

Agun called on local authorities and community leaders to support the campaign. “We’re working together to ensure residents stay safe,” he said. He also urged people to remain vigilant, report early flood signs, and follow official directives to reduce the disaster’s impact.

The warning follows forecasts of heavy rainfall expected to persist through September and possibly into October.
