Ekiti Targets Inclusive Healthcare by 2026 with New Training Initiative

The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering comprehensive healthcare to all residents by 2026, with a renewed focus on strategic budgeting and leadership development within the health sector.
This was made known on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti during the launch of a four-day training programme, themed “Leadership Health Systems Strengthening and Planning: Capacity Development for Health Leaders”
The training, supported by the Federal Ministry of Health’s Sector-Wide Approach (SWAP) and the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, aims to sharpen the leadership and planning capacity of key health officials.
Speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani—represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Olusola Gbenga-Igotun—said the initiative is part of the state’s larger plan to develop a realistic and well-structured health budget. This, he said, is central to achieving inclusive and quality healthcare for all citizens by the set target year.

Mr Adeniyi Ajayi, a SWAP facilitator coordinating the programme across the country, noted that the initiative is designed to harmonise health leadership across state and local government levels, as well as related agencies, to ensure a unified and effective national healthcare system.
With this move, Ekiti joins other proactive states seeking long-term solutions to healthcare delivery through improved leadership and planning.
