Falz – No Law Allows President Suspend a Governor
Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, arguing that the move is unconstitutional.
Meanwhile, Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months, citing political instability. He also appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as the Administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.
Reacting via his X (Twitter) page, Falz challenged the legality of the president’s action, asserting that no law permits the suspension of an elected governor.
“There is ABSOLUTELY NO LAW that allows a president to SUSPEND a governor. A Governor is elected into office and may only be removed by impeachment,” he wrote.
He further questioned whether Rivers State met the legal threshold for emergency rule.
“Is Rivers State at war? Is there an actual breakdown of public order? Is there a threat to the existence of the Federation?” Falz asked.
His statement adds to the growing debate over the constitutionality of Tinubu’s decision, as legal and political experts continue to weigh in on the matter.
