Fubara, Navy Strengthen Security Cooperation in Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has agreed with the Nigerian Navy to deepen collaboration aimed at improving security and protecting key government facilities across the state.

The governor reached the agreement on Wednesday when the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, visited him at Government House, Port Harcourt, as part of his tour of naval formations nationwide.

Fubara said his administration remains committed to supporting all security agencies, adding that government has a duty to provide the tools they need to operate effectively.

He noted that Rivers State hosts critical national oil and gas assets, much of which lie along coastal areas, and said the Navy’s presence is essential to safeguarding lives, the environment and the state’s economic backbone.

Fubara said the collaboration would help the state identify and address areas where the Navy requires support.

He assured the Naval Chief that his government will continue to work closely with the Navy, building on the cooperation established by previous administrations.

Vice Admiral Abbas thanked the governor for the support the Navy has enjoyed in the state, describing Rivers as strategically important to Nigeria’s energy sector.

He said several major naval units and training facilities are located in the state and emphasised the Navy’s readiness to secure national assets and maintain stability
