Governor Diri Urges PDP to Resolve Internal Crisis, Strengthen Party for Future Elections
Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prioritize resolving internal crises to position the party as a formidable opposition force in Nigeria.
Speaking at the inauguration of the South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, Diri emphasized that while it is easy to blame the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for democracy-related challenges, the PDP must first address its internal weaknesses.
The governor stressed that for the PDP to be an effective opposition, it must first put its house in order.

The inauguration today is a good step in the right direction. However, many have accused the APC-led federal government of undermining democracy.
But the key question is, can PDP serve as a strong and vibrant opposition? To do that, we must look inward and fix our own challenges,” he stated.
Diri noted that PDP remains Nigeria’s oldest political party and must take responsibility for strengthening its structure rather than focusing on external blame.
“It’s easy to point fingers at others, but we must first address our internal issues. A party must be competitive to stand against others. If we work together and resolve our challenges, PDP will reclaim its dominance,” he added.
Commending the inauguration of the caretaker committee, Diri highlighted the South-South zone’s commitment to revitalizing the PDP.
“Our zone remains a stronghold of the PDP, with four governors. We are united in this mission. The governors of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, and I have resolved to work together and show leadership that will strengthen the party,” he assured.
Diri emphasized that with unity and strategic planning, PDP can regain its in Flouence in future elections.
