Grenade Attack in Bogota Kills Three, Injures Nine
A grenade attack by a local gang in Colombia’s capital, Bogota, late Wednesday left three people dead and nine others injured, Mayor Carlos Fernando Galan confirmed.
The attack occurred in the central San Bernardo neighborhood, marking the second such incident in three weeks.
According to Galan, the explosion was part of an ongoing turf war between criminal groups resisting police crackdowns in the area. “This new attack, like previous ones, is a reaction of criminal gangs seeking to survive the sustained siege of the Bogota police,” he stated on social media.

Bogota police commander Giovanni Cristancho said the violence stems from clashes between two organized crime groups. In response, Galan has ordered intensified operations to dismantle gang networks and capture their leaders.
San Bernardo, once a hub for furniture manufacturing, has in recent years become a hotspot for drug trafficking and consumption.
Three weeks ago, another grenade attack in the neighborhood killed one homeless person and injured seven others.
